Antique and vintage purses collection (11 pieces) dating from 1900 to the 1950s, made from mixed fabric.
Description from the seller
ANTIQUE & VINTAGE PURSES (11) 1900 - 1950's
Various materials: Metal-chain-mesh, beaded fabric, wool and leather.
The collection consists of eleven assorted miniature purses decorated with glass beads on fabric, metal chain mesh, wool, brocade and leather. Similar small purses were made at the end of the 19th century and early in the 20th century to contain a few small coins, often added to a chatelaine. The smaller purses could also be used to hang on the belt of a large folk-costume doll, these would be tiny, approx. 5/6cm. high. The longest in this collection is a beaded purse of 10cm. high and the smallest an antique metal-mesh example with hanging beads. One of the chain-mesh purses contains a 25 cent coin of Queen Wilhelmina dated 1941. (It was considered unlucky to give a purse as a gift without at least one coin for luck!) This same purse has a beautiful lacy edge made of metal crochet work. Very fine work. A number of the vintage purses from around 1950 are made of coloured beads on fabric. One purse has a red and white knitted pattern, one has a body of black brocade and another small leather purse from around the turn of the last century, was suitable for carrying a few coins.
The collection is in very good condition. It will be a varied and colourful addition to an antique or vintage collection..
Quick and careful packaging will ensure a safe delivery. See my feedback on Catawiki.
