Description from the seller
Splendid art edition limited to only 205 copies, illustrated with 12 etchings by Lobel-Riche, perfectly printed on 10 plates at the Manuel Robbe workshop.
Exceptional copy, one of the 5 from Imperial Japan Hors-Commerce reserved for the artist's learned friends from A to E. This one bears the letter A, signed by the author 'R. Margerit' with certification.
It is enriched:
- Five original pencil drawings by Lobel-Riche, two of which are signed by the artist.
- two coppers used for the illustration of the work.
- a double suite of drypoints by Lobel-Riche with remarks, in black and bistre (10+10 plates)
Homage to the artist who passed away on May 11, 1950, paid by his friends André Billy and Pierre Mac Orlan, and especially Robert Margerit, who had already dedicated a work to him in 1946, and who here discusses the art of the engraver through some of his compositions.
Indeed, Lobel-Riche's engravings existed before the pages that accompany them, Margerit writes. Contrary to usual publishing practices, the writer here submitted to the engraver and only took up the pen after he had laid down, alas, his tools permanently.
Signed by; Lobel-Riche / Robert Margerit
Pretexts. Dry Points by Lobel-Riche. Foreword by André Billy and Pierre Mac-Orlan.
At the expense of a Group of Amateurs, 1951
In-folio (33.5 x 27 cm); 82 pages, 3 pages, 1 page blank (complete)
Volume in sheets, under a cover. Accompanied by the cardboard folder and the case.
Very fresh and clean copy, slight scuffs on the corners of the case. In excellent condition.
