Contemporary full calf binding, spine with 4 raised bands decorated with fleurons and the title, stamped in fine gold, red morocco title piece with gilt compartment, double gilt fillet framing the covers.
A new edition of the French translation of the Bible for Protestants, published in Geneva by Nicolas Barbier in 1556 (Graesse, I, 375). It contains in a single volume various texts: the Bible proper, that is, the Old and New Testaments, followed by the Apocryphal Gospels and the Book of Solomon. Next come unpaginated texts: the poetic translation of the Psalms of David by C. Marot and T. Besze, with Gregorian chant annotations.
Skin damage, rubbing, superficial skin loss (the last thin surface layer which is tinted), cracked but flat but solid hinges, interior with damp stains on some notebooks.
