Condition: beautiful / excellent - very neat authentic binding (spine very professionally renewed) with very well-fitting locks; neat, compact, and sturdy block; generally neat, fresh, and white pages (first two pages reinforced at the edges with strips of paper, the first two gatherings slightly shifted, some light water spots, some scattered spots, some folds in the cards Paradise, Jerusalem, Caaan & Reysen Pauli repaired with strips of paper, water stains at the edge of Maccabees 2 and 3. Otherwise, neat paper). Complete!
Note: some (detail) photos appear yellowish due to camera settings, but the paper is actually white.
Printed by the widow of the late Paulus Aertsz Ravesteyn.
A very charming piece with a beautiful complete set of fittings.
Provided with beautiful capitals and vignettes.
The cards are highly detailed, sharp, and dark prints. True works of art! Equipped with the original very large margins. The cards are engraved by Nicolaus Ioa. Visschero [Nicolaas Johannes Visscher], this edition is very rare.
At the moment the 'Werelt Caert' was published, the entire world had not yet been explored and known. For instance, California was depicted as an island, parts of Australia still needed to be discovered, and it was labeled as 'New Holland'! Just the world map itself is already fascinating!
Rare print by Van Ravesteyn, the important corrected Bible!
A must-have for serious collectors of state Bibles.
Only the world map already costs 850 (!) euros in the market.
Collectors item!
