Description from the seller

Original edition of Georges Sand's preface, which occupies the first five pages of the work.

Text in Dauphinois dialect that originally appeared in Grenoble in 1733. Its author was a Grenoble grocer, 'impotent and ravaged by gout to excess, though only 46 years old.' 'Grenoblo malhérou' is the account of the great flood of 1733. (Carteret III, 95 - Vicaire I, 812).

First edition of the numerous and very beautiful wood engravings in the text by E. Dardelet after the drawings by D. Rahoult. Text framed with a black line.

Preserved in a luxurious binding signed by Martin, in deep midnight blue Morocco leather, with triple fillet framing the covers, spine decorated with mosaic floral motifs in ochre leather and richly adorned with small gold tools. Inner lace, gilded edges. Printed on sturdy paper with wide margins.

Beautiful copy, in very good condition. Slightly rubbed corners and headbands. Impeccable interior, free of foxing or very rare.

Poetry in the Dauphiné dialect. Grenoble Malhérou... drawings by D. Rahoult... preface by Georges Sand.
