Description from the seller
Full leather binding with gilded frames on the boards. 5 raised bands on the spine and gold tooling. Defects to the hinge and to the endbands.
Flyleaf, 2 blank leaves, [2], 328, flyleaf
Published in 1756 and is a collection of essays, letters and articles on various topics such as literature, history and philosophy. The book is divided into several sections, each of which contains a series of different essays. The third and final section of the book (the one presented here) is dedicated to philosophy and includes essays on topics such as ethics, metaphysics and the nature of God. Voltaire discusses the ideas of some important philosophers of his time, including Descartes and Leibniz. Overall, Suite Des Melanges De Litterature, De Histoire, Et De Philosophie is an important work of Enlightenment literature that provides valuable insights into literary, historical and philosophical ideas of the 18th century and remains a significant work of French literature.
Beautiful engraving on the title page with text in red and black. 42 explanatory figures finely engraved throughout the volume. Headpieces and tailpieces woodcut. Pages 111-112 inserted erroneously between pages 98 and 99. Faded gutter along the lower margin in the first half of the volume that does not compromise its freshness. In general good condition: usable and complete.
