Description from the seller
Rosenthal porcelain box designed by Yang, a refined example of the geometric, postmodern aesthetic that defined parts of the Rosenthal Studio Line in the late 20th century. The cylindrical form is clean and minimal, while the decoration introduces a rhythmic play of line and colour: concentric black rings on the lid and a precise composition of yellow, blue, and soft violet accents on the body. The result is a piece that feels both architectural and playful, embodying Yang’s background in textile design and his affinity for graphic clarity.
Yang, born in Bandung and later active in Berlin, became known for his work across fashion, textiles, and applied arts. His approach to design is marked by layered geometry, subtle asymmetry, and a sensitivity to colour that echoes both modernist abstraction and Southeast Asian visual traditions. Rosenthal invited him to translate this language into porcelain, resulting in a small but distinctive group of designs that stand out for their precision and artistic individuality.
This lidded box works beautifully as a functional container or as a small sculptural object. The glossy white porcelain enhances the crispness of the pattern, and the piece sits comfortably within any modern or eclectic interior.
