Description from the seller
La Sagesse Box
The Three Wise Monkeys
Lalique, 2016
Limited Edition – Year of the Monkey
In the tradition of Lalique's timeless masterpieces, the La Sagesse box reinterprets with infinite grace the three guardian monkeys of Japanese tradition: Mizaru, Kikazaru, and Iwazaru – those who refuse to see, hear, or speak evil. Created to celebrate the Year of the Monkey in the Chinese zodiac, this set of translucent crystal figurines captures an ancient philosophy of discretion and discernment, where the mischievous playfulness of the monkey transforms into a lesson of deep serenity. Hand-sculpted in the Alsace workshops of the House, these three companions – one modestly covering its eyes, another sealing its ears with a knowing gesture, the third placing fingers to its lips in eloquent silence – emit a gentle, iridescent light, reminiscent of the mist in a Zen garden under the moon.
Signed Lalique France, they come with a sumptuous case, witnesses to ancestral expertise where crystal becomes a mirror of the soul. A universal symbol of protection against the whispers of the world, this motif inspired enlightened minds such as Mahatma Gandhi, who cherished a version of it as a rare talisman.
Beyond their playful charm, these monkeys invite measured observation and reserved speech, transforming any space into a sanctuary of reflection—whether it be a cabinet of curiosities or a contemporary interior. Heir to René Lalique's poetic vision, founder of this legendary house in 1888, the La Sagesse Box embodies the very essence of revisited Art Deco: a harmonious fusion of Eastern tradition and French elegance, where each sculpted curve tells a story of light and shadow.
A rare piece for lovers of exceptional objects, it elevates the everyday into an eternal meditation on true wisdom. Lightly damaged box.
Images are part of the description. Insured shipping and at a relay point if possible.
