Description from the seller
Important second edition, printed in Geneva in 1626 under the Amsterdam label; indeed, d'Aubigne made many corrections and introduced significant additions. It is also this second edition's text that Baron de Ruble (1886-1897) and André Therry (critical edition Paris-Geneva, 1981) preferred to reproduce.
Complete of the three in-folio volumes here bound into a single volume. Title adorned with the printer's mark engraved on wood. Text in two columns decorated with typographic ornaments engraved on wood.
Antique binding, full havana calf, spine with raised bands, with gilded title and fleurons. Double gold fillet on the leather covers.
Condition: used binding, first hinge split (fragile flat). Interior fresh, some foxing and slightly browned pages, crease on the title page. Wormwork on the first guard. Fair condition except for binding defects. Bibliographical notice glued to the first guard.
The History of France narrated with talent by Aubigné will mainly be that of Protestant France, of which Henri IV, King of Béarn, is the central figure. This important historical work, a lifetime's effort, is published at the expense of Agrippa d’Aubigné.
