Original edition. A select copy enriched with a signed handwritten letter from A. Willette, dated April 3, 1922: [Madam, yes I am sorry you came during our absence, especially since I am eager to know the impression that my book made on you and Jacques Ferry...]. Marginal notes accompany the letter, featuring two sketches captioned: '... I believed I was happy, Madam, and now, upon returning... I learned that you had come!!].

Autobiographical work adorned with numerous in-text illustrations as well as 31 full-page plates outside the text, including 15 in color, featuring the plates drawn by WILLETTE throughout his career.
Opens with two texts by Félix Decori and Eugène Carrière and a drawing by Poulbot.

Perfectly bound in a signed J.C. Bousquet binding, in full cherry morocco, with the spine decorated with two relief leather pieces bearing the title and author's name. The inner border is decorated with gilded fillets and dots, with the endpapers and flyleaves lined with red moiré silk, and the binder's name stamped at the bottom of the last endpaper. The original illustrated cover is preserved. Comes with a matching slipcase.

Very beautiful specimen, in excellent condition. Case scuffed and slightly cracked.

Adolphe Leon WILLETTE (1857-1926) was a student of CABANEL at the École des Beaux-Arts. He contributed to numerous newspapers, such as Le Rire and Le Chat Noir; an ardent polemicist, he founded two newspapers, Le Pierrot and Le Pied de Nez, and participated with Steinlein in the creation of the newspaper Les Humoristes in 1910. He recounts his memories in Feu Pierrot.
