A handcrafted wood mosaic from the 1940s with a warm, textured surface and cubist modernist hints, measuring 80 by 40 cm; good overall condition with minor edge wear.
Description from the seller
An extraordinary artisanal mosaic made entirely with tiles is offered, a rarely used technique that gives the piece a warm, organic texture and great visual richness. Each tile, carved and cut by hand, displays natural nuances of grain and color characteristic of wood, creating a surprising chromatic play and a vibrant surface.
The composition depicts a still life inspired by classical themes, reinterpreted with a modern and geometric language. In the scene, a stylized bottle, a glass, a chest, a bunch of grapes, and a large vase are arranged on a cloth. The background consists of a rhythmic mosaic of small square pieces in earth tones, reddish, green, and bluish hues, creating depth and contrast.
The volumetric treatment through tesserae and the use of different shades of wood demonstrate a very notable mastery of this technique, which combines decorative art and pictorial art in a single work. Its aesthetic recalls cubist and modernist influences, with a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional still life.
Due to its size, horizontal format, and visual presence, it is an ideal piece for decorative arts collections, artistic interior design, galleries, or spaces where a unique and highly decorative work is desired.
Technique: Mosaic with wooden tesserae.
Good overall condition, with minor wear on the edge consistent with its age.
