Description from the seller
Original page no. 19 in India ink, created by Kas for the story "The Planet of Spells" by Hans. First published in 1993 in issue no. 177 of the weekly helloBédé (successor to the Journal de Tintin), then in volume 6 of the Hans albums, and finally, in 2014, in volume 2 of the complete collection.
Superb illustration depicting an intense scene, which inspired the album cover.
Signed at the bottom right.
“The Planet of Spells” is the transitional album between Grzegorz Rosiński and his spiritual heir, Kas.
Kas: The Master of Polish Realism
Zbigniew Kasprzak, better known by his pseudonym Kas, is a comic book artist born on March 31, 1955 in Zielona Góra, Poland. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, he is now recognized as one of the major figures of the Polish school in Franco-Belgian comics.
The Sponsorship of Grzegorz Rosiński
Kas's arrival on the French-speaking market is inextricably linked to his close relationship with Grzegorz Rosiński, the legendary artist of Thorgal. In 1988, he won first prize for the poster at the Polish Comics Exhibition at the Sierre Festival, which allowed him to meet Grzegorz Rosiński and fully enter the world of French-language comics, a world he had long admired.
Hans' Masterful Comeback
Kas's breakthrough came with the science fiction series Hans, written by André-Paul Duchâteau. Originally created graphically by Rosiński, the series became difficult for him to manage, as he was preoccupied with the growing success of Thorgal.
Rosiński then naturally chose Kas to succeed him, confident in his technical ability and artistic sensitivity.
Far from simply copying his mentor's style, Kas achieved the remarkable feat of preserving the series' visual identity while imbuing it with his own distinctive touch: an elegant, realistic style, expressive faces, and a remarkable mastery of atmosphere. He continued to draw the series until its conclusion in volume 12, making Hans a landmark of Franco-Belgian science fiction.
The color pages taken from the October 1981 Tintin magazine and the French, German, Dutch and Polish editions of the album "The Planet of Spells" are presented for informational purposes.
