Montesquieu / Ed. de Beaumont, Boilvin — Lettres Persanes, an illustrated 1886 two‑volume edition in French, bound in fine demi‑cuir with gilt spines, complete with 214 and 262 pages respectively, in solid condition.

Charming edition, with a small print run, complete in two volumes, with a preface by M. Tourneux and illustrated with drawings by Ed. de Beaumont engraved in etching by Boilvin.
Bound in a fine cornered maroquin binding, executed for the Louis Conard bookstore, with a raised spine decorated with gilded panels and titling. Gilt head and original cover and spine preserved.
The Persian Letters is an epistolary novel by Montesquieu, gathering the fictitious correspondence exchanged between two Persian travelers, Usbek and Rica, and their respective friends who remained in Persia. Their stay abroad lasts nine years.
Very well preserved set: tiny signs of wear on the caps. Sturdy hinges. Fresh interior and free of rust spots.
