Description from the seller
Second edition of these hours approved by the Bishop of Dijon, taken from manuscripts from the 12th to 17th centuries belonging to the collection of Mr. H. Baudot in Dijon.
Kept in a luxurious binding with the initials H.D., signed by L. Lesort. Executed in full midnight blue morocco, with a monogram topped by a gold crown in the center of the first cover, spine with raised bands decorated with the title in gold letters. The binder's name stamped at the tail. Rich inner lace, endpapers, and flyleaves lined with shimmering blue silk. Under a black wooden case, with the monogram H.D., the interior lined with beige velvet and the gold mark of L. Lesort, publisher and binder.
Entirely assembled on tabs, decorated with numerous tables and ornaments, and fully printed in chromolithography with gold and silver, in the spirit of medieval illuminated manuscripts. The calligraphy of the text, in French, was lithographed by A. Leroy.
Binding in excellent condition, impeccable interior. Box showing some signs of rubbing. Beautiful example.
