"My Memories," published in 1946, begin like the autobiography of a modest, self-taught Parisian and continue as a collection of measured, thoughtful testimonies, recalling literary personalities, whether they remain famous today or have already been threatened with oblivion or marginalization in their time. A sign of his openness and integrity, Descaves was the testamentary executor and posthumous publisher of Joris-Karl Huysmans, an archetype of the aesthetic artist, and of Gustave Lefrançais, an libertarian socialist, former member and historian of the Paris Commune in 1871.
