Description from the seller

This bronze sculpture is based on the famous Hellenistic original from the Pergamene School from the 2nd century BC, one of the most beloved and well-known sculptures from antiquity. It depicts Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos of Crete, sleeping on the island of Naxos, where she was abandoned by her lover Theseus after helping him defeat the Minotaur.

The figure is depicted in an elegant reclining pose, with soft, flowing lines and a traditionally draped garment. The composition captures the moment of quiet vulnerability before Ariadne is discovered by the god Dionysus, who later takes her as his bride. This theme has inspired countless artists over the centuries and is among the most beloved representations in classical sculpture.

A refined bronze reproduction based on an antique example, ideal for lovers of mythology, neoclassical art, and classical sculpture.
