Description from the seller

Indigenous Peoples versus Spanish Colonists Chess

A beautifully crafted, highly detailed handmade chess set with a history.

The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, also known as the Conquest of Mexico or the Spanish-Mexican War (1519–21), was one of the most significant events in the Spanish colonization of the Americas.

There are multiple 16th-century accounts of the events by Spanish conquerors, their indigenous allies, and the Aztecs.

It was not just a battle between a small contingent of Spaniards who defeated the Aztec empire, but rather the creation of a coalition of Spanish invaders with subjects of the Aztecs, and especially the indigenous enemies and rivals of the Aztecs.
