France, 2 Early XXth Century linen pillow cases with L.W. initials, white, 45 × 50 cm, in as new condition.
Description from the seller
it is increasingly rare and difficult to find a pair of pillow cases in perfect condition.
When linen arrives at the office for checking and scrutinising in most cases we have to
abandon at least 1 pillow and sometimes even the pair.
The reason being obviously the pillow cases get a lot of wear and tear through
constantly "rubbing the fabric" during the night .
This pair it appears have not stood the test and remained for
most of its life in the dowry armoire. They are as new.
The initials L.W. are partially out lined and then filled in with "pinhead embroidery "
and partly embroidered in high relief.
Each initial carries a small garland of interesting detail.
The pillow cases are framed with lace which is in perfect condition and this
again is a clear sign that they were virtually never taken out of the armoire,
as the lace woud have deteriorated totally.
PLEASE NOTE;
For no explicable reasons the button fasteners are at the side and not at the bottom.
It could have been deliberately done as to not lie on the buttons at night which makes sense.
