Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A French late nineteenth to early twentieth century bed linen in linen with large P.D. initials, sized 3.40 by 2.65 metres, is in excellent condition and offers elegant embroidery and lace detail.
Description from the seller
I have not witnessed this particular bed linen before and by that I mean
not all bed linen produced was a single piece with embroidery, but often woven in large
quantities with either the same design or a variant.
Whereas this bed linen with a width of 2m65 and 3m40 in length must have been
especially ordered for some French family who was well off. and would have been a one off piece.
This would have been either circa 1870 or the early XXth Century.
It is quite magnificent with all the lace and the generous initials P.D.
They have been heavily embroidered in high relief and are generous at ca. 17cm.
They clearly stand out from the back ground and obviously want to make some statement.
There are 2 wide borders of lace, horizontally and at the sides up to 1m30.
The choreography of joining the lace together at both corners have been
so well achieved and makes an excellent statement of genuine craft man ship.
We have added a piece of red felt under both the lace borders and the corner to
highlight the expertise.
The bed linen is finished with scalloped edging.
PLEASE NOTE:
There is just one tiny piece of lac which needs attention and a good embroiderer
can fully reinstate the piece. Please see last photo.
My belief is that the bed linen was very seldom used to deck the bed.
