Rare original edition bound in a luxurious binding signed by René Kieffer and enriched with a handwritten letter signed by the author: [Paris, Nov. 1901. Please excuse me, my dear colleague, for replying so late. I was traveling, ill, and unable to do anything. Kind regards to you. Henri de Regnier].

One of the 97 copies printed in Hollande, after 19 in Japan; this one is numbered 29.

Set in an elegant binding by Kieffer, executed in full brown morocco, with a spine featuring raised bands decorated with the author, the title, and the date in gilt letters. Double fillets frame the boards, with gold tooling at the corners depicting thought. All edges gilt.
Covers and spine preserved.

In very good condition. Slightly worn spine, a crease at the lower corner, hinge a bit rubbed. Well-made binding executed perfectly. Some scattered foxing. Beautiful copy, not trimmed.

Provenance: Bookplate of Henri Thuile with leather pasted to the front endpaper. The poet and essayist Henri Thuile (1885-1960) is among the most discreet yet influential figures of Egypt's literary scene in the early 20th century.
