Charming specimen

Georges Raymond Constantin Rodenbach, born on July 16, 1855, in Tournai, and died on December 25, 1898, in Paris, was a symbolist poet and Belgian novelist of the late 19th century. Although he died at the age of forty-three, he holds a prominent place in the history of international symbolism with his poetry collections, including his famous novel Bruges-la-Morte. He is a cousin of playwright Albrecht Rodenbach.
It is appropriate to compare the work of Rodenbach with that of the Belgian symbolist painter Fernand Khnopff. At the time of the publication of Bruges-la-Morte, for which he designed the frontispiece drawing, he participated in the Rose-Cross salons of Sâr Péladan.
