Antiquities of Mexico, Based on Lord Kingsborough's Compilation. Volume III needs to be properly bound as it has several loose pages.
Mexico: Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit, 1964. fo. marquilla, XIV+336; 182; 451 pages. First edition. Volumes I - III. Illustrated. Study and interpretation by José Corona Núñez. Preliminary words by Antonio Ortiz Mena. Foreword by Agustín Yañez. Volume III: broken case and some pages detached. Bound in hardcover, in cases. Pieces: 3. Lord Kingsborough, Edward King, Viscount of Kingsborough (1795 - 1837), was an Irish antiquarian who sought to demonstrate that the indigenous peoples of America were one of the ten lost tribes of Israel. He collected numerous bibliographies and facsimile documentation containing reports from the first explorers of Mesoamerica and pre-Columbian Mayan ruins. Kingsborough published the first volume of Antiquities of Mexico in 1831; in 1837, he was imprisoned where he died of typhus, and the last two volumes of Antiquities of Mexico were published by his heirs. Subsequently, the set of facsimile documents was called Códice Kingsborough. It includes facsimile editions of the following codices, which, as explained, were made from transparencies taken from the originals.
