Description from the seller

BARTLETT, W. H. Walks through the City and Environs of Jerusalem. London: A. Hall Virtue & Co. [ca. 1845].

Original linen, decorated and lettered in gold; pp. viii, [2], 255, 8 (publisher's catalogue); 25 steel-engraved plates including tinted front page and title, 4 maps including 2 folds, 30 woodcuts of the text; binding a little worn, slight wear to the corners; dust jackets a little browned, inside very clean, without the usual staining of the plates.

Revised second edition (first edition 1844). Bartlett made five trips to the Levant in total, and two specifically to Jerusalem, the first in 1842. This is the first work he wrote and illustrated himself; he had previously illustrated works by others. Bartlett died on the return journey from his last voyage in 1853-54 and was buried at sea.

An ex libris is present on the first endpaper.
