Tenuta Tignanello is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, on the rolling hills between the Greve and Pesa valleys. It extends over 319 hectares, with approximately 130 hectares of vineyards. Among its vineyards are two treasures: the Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, which extend across the same hillside on soils derived from Pliocene marine marl with limestone and schist. They enjoy warm days and cool nights during the growing season. The current 16th-century manor house was built on the foundations of an estate dating back to 1346, when the land belonged to the Buondelmonti family, like much of the Pesa Valley. In the 17th century, it passed to a cadet branch of the Medici family, who named it Fonte dei Medici, and then to the Antinori family in the mid-1800s. Since the 1970s, Tenuta Tignanello has served as a sort of "laboratory" for the Marchesi Antinori's winemaking experiments, introducing innovative viticultural techniques and new varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Innovations in planting density, pruning practices, and the selection of Sangiovese have always aimed to produce grapes with greater concentration and soft tannins. In this unique terroir, Sangiovese, like Cabernet, express themselves by maximizing their characteristics and the typicality of the territory.
WINE DESCRIPTION
It was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first modern red wine blended with non-traditional varieties (such as Cabernet), and among the first red wines in Chianti Classico not to use white grapes. Tignanello is a milestone. It is produced with a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. During fermentation, the musts are macerated with extreme attention to preserving the aromas, extracting color, and managing the sweetness and elegance of the tannins. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques, enhancing the finesse and complexity of the aromas. The aging process takes place in French and Hungarian oak barrels, some new and some used, for a total period of approximately 14-16 months. The wine is aged for a further 12 months in bottle before being released. A deep ruby red with purple highlights, Tignanello 2022 strikes the nose with notes of cherry, ripe black cherry, and pomegranate seeds. These, combined with delicate hints of violet, lead to fresh balsamic sensations. Elegant hints of vanilla and cotton candy complete the bouquet. On the palate, sweet and savory tannins lend dynamism, alternating density and freshness that culminate in a long finish, echoing the notes perceived on the nose.
