Description from the seller
Murano Zanfirico Vase from the 1950s - Lattimo Filigrana Reticello
Refined Murano blown glass vase, original from the 1950s.
A superb example of Venetian glassmaking craftsmanship, characterised by impeccable technical execution and timeless elegance.
The detailed images reveal the intricacy of the workmanship of this piece.
The Zanfirico technique dates back to the 16th century and can be Reticello filigree or Retortoli filigree.
The two techniques, dating back to the 16th century and widely revived in the 19th and 20th centuries, involve the use of transparent glass rods containing milk glass or colored glass threads.
In our case it is Reticello filigree, two cylinders with opposite spiral patterns are prepared which, blown and appropriately opened, are inserted one inside the other by welding the walls together, this creates a unique visual movement, enhanced by the bulbous shape of the vase and the flared opening that shows the convergence of the canes towards the bottom.
ATTRIBUTION AND PERIOD
The small jar does not display a signature, style, or the type of Zanfirico work in 'alternating vertical canes'.
