Early English edition of Epicurus’s moral philosophy, including his Wise Man sayings, Letter to Menoeceus, and maxims, with Saint-Évremond’s life of Epicurus and Isocrates’ Advice to Demonicus. Based on Diogenes Laertius, Digby’s 1712 translation reflects renewed seventeenth-century interest in Epicurean atomism and rational ethics. Lacking frontispiece. Half calf with marbled boards, gilt spine worn with losses and central flaw, extremities rubbed, loss to top right corner of title page, ownership marks to pastedown, strong foxing and discolourations internally, notably to i to pp. 91 (upper third) and pp. 176–208.
