This illustrated first edition of Le Crépuscule des Dieux presents Richard Ranft’s color etchings in a binding signed by Charles Septier, number 10 of 119, with bibliographic provenance.
Description from the seller
First illustrated edition of the novel by Élémir Bourges (1852-1925), adorned with superb color etchings by Richard Ranft (full-page illustrations, vignettes, and tailpieces). Printed in only 119 numbered copies on large watermarked paper (vellum), this being copy number 10.
Very beautiful edition for bibliophiles, preserved in a binding signed by Charles Septier in full chocolate morocco, spine with four raised bands decorated with the title, author, and date at the foot in gilt letters. Borders along the edges. Wide inner dentelle, binder's name stamped at the bottom of the front cover. Gilt edges. Covers and spine preserved (including the first illustrated). Comes with a matching slipcase.
Excellent condition item. Tiny small white stain on the second cover. Impeccable interior.
Richard Ranft (1862-1931) was a Swiss painter, draftsman, and engraver. He contributed to 'L'Estampe moderne' and 'La Plume,' for which he produced vignettes and engravings. He also participated in the Salon des Cent, notably with a solo exhibition in 1895. Between 1892 and 1913, he created several illustrations, including 'Mademoiselle d'Orchair' (1892), 'Le Crépuscule des Dieux' (1905), and 'L'Illustre Famille' (1913).
