6 Early XXth C. Damask linen napkins with F.D. initials - Napkin - 60 cm - 77 cm

These are two sets of 3 damask linen napkins
with the same F.D. initials ,but each 3 in a different
interpretation of the initial F.D.
This often happened that the well to do French
Bourgeoisie families had several sets of napkins ordered
with different background of damask, but also with different initials.
Thus a kind of "mix and match" as we would call it these days.
But also just in case a few of the napkins would have to be abandoned
due to wear and tear they could include others with the same initials.
The napkins would be daily used and not just for the weekend.
The dining room table would always be immaculately decked
and luncheon and dinner would at all times be a central occasion with lots
of discussion going on.
The damask on both of the three napkins has been so well "echoed" and full of
floral decoration.
The second set of the napkins measure 85cm x 75cm.
