Description from the seller
Beautiful lot of three small antique Florentine brass oil lamps, also known as lucerne. These 19th-century antiques were widely used for lighting before the advent of electricity.
Main Features
Material: They are made mainly of brass, which over time develops the patina visible in the images.
Design: They feature a central shaft with a looped handle at the top and a stable base. The oil reservoir, or "stack," typically has two, three (as in this case), or four spouts for the wicks (also called "fires").
How it works: They work by dipping a wick into a fuel oil (such as lamp oil) and lighting it to produce light.
Accessories: The chains visible on two of the lamps are used to hold accessories, such as small tools for adjusting or extinguishing the wick.
Condition: The examples shown show signs of wear, oxidation, and fuel residue, consistent with their age and historical use.
