AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

For the early20th Century this is an exceptional wide bed linen with
2m25 width.
There are for a change no initials, but an handsome border of open thread work
at 15cm wide.
Initials were not at all times the order of the day.
There were several reasons for this.
The bride to be had to make her own trousseaux ( dowry)
for her forthcoming marriage, and when she was running late
the parents and future parents in law would come to the rescue.
If the trousseaux involved complex initials or lace the Nuns of
the local Convent would assist as they were specialised in fine
embroidery and making the clothing for the Priest.
And finally there were often instances where the groom was in the army
and had passed away during battle and the wedding was called off.
To highlight the "mesh" border we have photographed the top
with a piece of red felt to bring out the beauty of the thread work.
