Produced by the renowned Tua Rita winery in the upper Maremma production area, in the Colline Metallifere zone. The grapes used for its vinification are 100% Sangiovese. The vines are planted at a density of 5,000-9,000 vines per hectare. The training system is spurred cordon and Guyot. The soil on which the vines are grown is characterized by a strong clay content with a medium-high percentage of gravel. The higher vineyards contain more gravel, while the lower ones contain more silt. The vineyards are managed organically. Production reaches 40,000 bottles. This important red wine from Tua Rita is aged 50% in second- and third-use French oak barriques, and the remaining 50% in a 35-hl Cuvée (truncated cone-shaped oak vat). Tua Rita's Sangiovese is a pure Sangiovese. When the winery was acquired, it was the predominant varietal, along with Trebbiano. After several vinifications, to fully bring out the potential of Tuscany's greatest grape variety, a new approach was explored. In 2003, a vineyard was planted with a clone selected to better adapt to the dry climate and hot summer temperatures of the Tuscan coast. In 2011, the first harvest with grapes sourced exclusively from this vineyard was celebrated. The wait was long, but the result was achieved: the clone, the soil, and the unique soil and climate conditions express the full power of Sangiovese in a highly evocative expression.
