Mauricio Valls i Quer (Barcelona, 1904 – Olot, 1992) was a Catalan painter and nativity scene artist who developed his career as a notable continuator of the landscape tradition of the Olot School. Although his parents tried to steer him towards commerce, Valls Quer chose painting, training at the Llotja School in Barcelona, where he was a student of Fèlix Mestres. His style remained faithful to post-Impressionist landscape painting with luminous tones and a serene atmosphere. He had his first solo exhibition at the Sala Parés in Barcelona in 1924 and was recognized by winning the Masriera silver medal in 1930 for his painting "Olot." In addition to his oil paintings, which he usually signed as Vallsquer, he was also a prominent figure in the art of nativity scenes (dioramas and models of nativity scenes) and left a legacy of works focused on the Catalan landscape, especially that of La Garrotxa.
