Description from the seller
NO RESERVE PRICE – 3 Half Bottles of Heymann-Löwenstein Winninger Uhlen 1er L, Schieferformation Laubach, Lange Goldkapsel, Vintage 2009
A Rare and Exquisite Mosel Treasure from the Legendary Heymann-Löwenstein Estate.
We are honored to present this extremely rare lot of three half bottles of Heymann-Löwenstein Winninger Uhlen 1er L, Schieferformation Laubach, Lange Goldkapsel from the outstanding 2009 vintage. The elongated gold capsule design confirms this is the special LGK selection, representing the pinnacle of the estate’s Auslese category.
The Wine and the Winery: A Legacy of Excellence
Heymann-Löwenstein, located in the steep terraced vineyards of the Terrassenmosel, is renowned for its uncompromising quality and terroir-driven Rieslings. Under the visionary leadership of Reinhard Löwenstein, the estate has become a benchmark for expressive Mosel wines. The Uhlen vineyard is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, a Grand Cru site with unique slate formations that impart exceptional minerality and complexity.
Vineyard Microclimate
The Uhlen vineyard benefits from a dramatic microclimate created by its steep south-facing slopes overlooking the Mosel River. The proximity to the river moderates temperatures and reflects sunlight, ensuring optimal ripening. Warm days and cool nights preserve acidity while promoting aromatic development. In 2009, these conditions were ideal for noble rot (botrytis), which concentrated sugars and flavors without compromising freshness, resulting in wines of extraordinary depth and longevity.
Vintage 2009: A Benchmark Year
2009 was an exceptional vintage in the Mosel, marked by perfect ripening conditions and noble botrytis development. This resulted in Auslese LGK wines of extraordinary concentration, purity, and aging potential.
What is Lange Goldkapsel?
Lange Goldkapsel (LGK) refers to the elongated gold capsule used by top German producers to indicate a special selection within the Auslese category. These wines are richer, more concentrated, and often botrytis-affected, representing the highest quality tier. In this lot, the distinctive long wax capsule confirms the LGK designation, signaling a wine of exceptional rarity and prestige.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant golden hue. Aromas of ripe peach, candied citrus, honey, and exotic spices, layered with smoky slate minerality. On the palate, opulent sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity, offering flavors of quince, apricot, and crystallized ginger. The finish is endless, with a saline edge and remarkable finesse. A wine of profound depth and elegance, capable of aging for decades.

Provenance and Storage
This lot was purchased directly from the estate and delivered to our private cellar in May 2011. Stored ever since in a professional, humidity- and temperature-controlled environment.
