Description from the seller

Physices elementa mathematica, confirmed by experiments. Or an introduction to Newtonian philosophy... (1742). A monumental work in 2 volumes of Mathematics and Physics by Willem Jacob's Gravesande, complete with 127 folded plates numbered. The work is distinguished by the fact that it was part of the library of the Bernese doctor and poet Albrecht von Haller, considered the founder of modern physiology, and features on the front endpaper of Volume I the splendid and elaborate ex libris of the doctor.
Rigid binding with signs of wear, pages with deckle edges. Internally, good overall condition with scattered foxing and light browning in some areas. Noted is the binding of Volume I partially detached but with all pages still very securely attached, and a plate with a small tear as shown in the photo. Good copy in an auction WITHOUT RESERVE. Total pages: [4]-lxxxvi-[2]-572, [2]-573/1073-[43] pp.
