Description from the seller
Solid 18th-century binding (with two small wormholes at the hinge) in full parchment with nails, smooth spine with a label bearing the author and title in gold. Ex-libris 'Gauthier' and 'Franz Pollack Parnau'.
1 blank sheet, [12], 146 (starting from 5, the last incorrectly numbered 147), [2], 1 blank sheet
First edition of this treatise dedicated to topics such as astrology, good and evil, vices and virtues. In the dedication passage of the Occorrenze humane, the author recalls his service with Don Miguel de Silva, Bishop of Viseu and future cardinal of Portugal (the dedicatee of B. Castiglione's The Courtier), and lists his numerous travels in France, England, Flanders, Syria, and Bruges, where he had the opportunity to meet Erasmus of Rotterdam for the second time, whom he knew in Venice in 1508 when Liburnio was a Greek and Latin proofreader for Aldo Manuzio. On the same pages, he informs the reader that he served various Venetian patricians: Girolamo Donà, Girolamo Pesaro, and finally Giovanni Pisani, for eight years as a tutor to his six-year-old son Luigi, who would later become Bishop of Padua.
Numbering on the recto. Beautiful Aldine typographic features on the title page and colophon. The specimen is excellently preserved, fresh inside, usable, and complete.
