Description from the seller
Fascinating full leather binding on the arms of the Prince de Condé (the Condé, whose title of Prince of Condé referred to the principality of Condé-en-Brie, in the department of Aisne, were a collateral branch of the Royal House of France, started by Louis de Bourbon, son of Charles, Duke of Vendôme, and Francesca of Alençon).
Two works in 1 volume: endpapers, [1], 99, [3]; 51, [3], 1 blank sheet, endpapers.
La Fiammetta and Il Corbaccio represent two fundamental aspects of Boccaccio's work: on one side, courtly love and lyrical poetry; on the other, social critique and satire. In both works, the author demonstrates a profound understanding of human psychology and an extraordinary ability to describe the feelings and emotions of his characters. La Fiammetta is an intense and moving work that highlights the fragility and complexity of love, offering a deep reflection on the human condition. Il Corbaccio, on the other hand, is a more provocative and irreverent piece that challenges social conventions and questions common ideas about morality and ethics. Both works are extraordinary examples of Boccaccio's genius and his skill in creating memorable characters and engaging situations, which continue to fascinate readers of every era.
Mark as editorial on both the frontispieces: phoenix on flames emanating from an amphora bearing the initials G.G.F. The binding is somewhat worn (slightly loose covers) but the interior is fresh and well preserved, as well as complete.
