David Martin Le Nouveau Testament, published in 1731, bound in half vellum with a handwritten spine title, offers a historically significant French Protestant Bible with marginal notes.
Description from the seller
[BIBLE] / MARTIN (David)
Le nouveau Testament c'est à dire la nouvelle alliance de nôtre Seigneur Jesus-Christ. Revu sur l'original, et retouche dans le langage; avec de petites notes marginales par David Martin
Leyden & Utrecht: T. Haak, S. Luchtmans & Jacob Van Poolsum, 1731.
First Edition Thus.
Contemporary (?) half vellum binding with hand written title in French to the spine, and marbled boards. The boards are a little bumped, with slight loss of surface in parts. The vellum is in very good condition. Title in red and black with attractive vignette. The text block is in very good condition, with fractional darkening, and a light stain to the top edge of some pages. Throughout the book, the pages have been trimmed too close to the top edge (and to a few pages to the right edge). This means that there is no top margin, and on some pages slight loss of page header. (All text and headers are still legible).
Overall a very good copy of a Protestant bible with a simple layout.
[vi], 647. [i]. pages. 200 by 160mm (7¾ by 6¼ inches).
David Martin (Revel 1639-Utrecht 1721), was a Protestant theologian, He moved to Holland following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. He was a learned man, and devoted the rest of his life to sharing and disseminating his vast knowledge, whether in his sermons or in his other works. Conforms to FirstSearch, WorldCat OCLC: 717526162.
