Description from the seller
James Hunt 1976 helmet with head sock
World Champion F1: 1976
James Hunt was an iconic British Formula One racing driver who won the Formula One World Championship in 1976. He was known for his great but dangerous racing, his rivalry with Nikki Lauda, and his playboy lifestyle.
James Hunt began his F1 racing career in 1973 with the Hesketh Racing team and soon became known for his reckless and action-packed exploits on track, earning him the nickname 'Hunt the Shunt.' He went on to win for Hesketh, driving their own Hesketh 308 car, before joining the McLaren team at the end of 1975. In his first year with McLaren, Hunt won the 1976 World Drivers' Championship, and he remained with the team for a further two years, although with less success, before moving to the Wolf team in early 1979. Following a string of races in which he failed to finish, Hunt retired from driving halfway through the 1979 season.
Hunt died from a heart attack aged 45. He was inducted into the Motor Sport Hall of Fame on 29 January 2014.
This is a very nice copy of the 1976 James Hunt small window helmet; it is fully restored with attention to every detail and perfectly painted on an original 1970 vintage Shoei helmet with Snell code 1970 (for professional motor racing). It is also fitted with the Velcro band on the bottom of the helmet and comes with the head sock attached, made from fire-resistant material. The head sock was attached to the helmet to protect the driver from fire to the neck and face after several horrific fire accidents.
This iconic and simple design looks very much like the helmet James used in the 1976 World Championship season. It will definitely make a perfect display piece in any collection. As you can see, the helmet is in very good used condition inside and out; although about 50 years old, it still looks fantastic.
