Original edition of the translation of Fontanelle of the Metamorphoses by Ovid published by Panckoucke, beautifully illustrated with 15 finely engraved plates by F. Grégori after J. Zocchi, a Florentine artist, including two engraved portraits on the frontispiece and two engraved title pages.
Estimated edition for its beautiful illustrations.
Complete set of two volumes, preserved in period binding, marbled havana calf, smooth gilt spine decorated with gilded fleurons and panels. Red edges.
Condition: pages of the volume number erased, signs of wear from use (corner holes). Interior pages are quite fresh, with slightly soiled leaves, some fine scattered foxing. Defects: moisture stain affecting the text and engraving on pages 198/199 of volume 2. Good condition.
