A lot of four mid‑20th‑century United Kingdom memorabilia from Claridge’s Hotel, comprising a copper bed/food warmer marked Claridge’s Hotel London, two panoramic banquet photographs from December 1932, and a 1935 Silver Jubilee Night Programme for King George V.
Description from the seller
A rare and highly desirable collection of original 1930s Claridge’s Hotel memorabilia, offering a unique glimpse into London’s most prestigious luxury hotel during the golden age of British high society.
This lot combines three different types of collectible items, all with strong provenance to Claridge’s:
1. Copper Hotel Bed/Food Warmer – marked Claridge’s Hotel London
A beautifully preserved copper warmer with brass mounts and a hardwood handle. These warmers were used in the early 20th century in luxury suites at Claridge’s.
Brass plaque: “CLARIDGE’S HOTEL – LONDON”
Decorated brass fittings
Hardwood detachable handle
Authentic period hotelware – extremely scarce on the market
These warmers rarely appear for sale, and when they do, they are typically separated from all provenance. Finding one with original Claridge’s marking gives it significant collectible and institutional value.
2. Two Panoramic Banquet Photographs – “Réunion des Gastronomes, December 1932”
These large panoramic photographs depict the annual gathering of the Réunion des Gastronomes, held in Claridge’s Hotel in December 1932.
The photographs show:
Dozens of prominent chefs, restaurateurs, and gastronomic figures from the interwar period
The luxurious Claridge’s ballroom setup
High-quality, original silver-gelatin prints, framed in period frames
Historical Claridge’s photographs of this size and age are highly sought after, especially related to gastronomy, as this society includes some of the most important culinary figures of the 20th century.
3. 1935 Silver Jubilee Night Programme – King George V
An original Claridge’s Restaurant menu/programme from the Silver Jubilee celebrations of King George V (1910–1935).
Dated Monday, May 6th
Features a portrait of King George V
Very good condition for age
Rare survivor from a prestigious royal celebration dinner in Claridge’s restaurant
Jubilee items linked to Claridge’s command strong prices among royal memorabilia collectors.
Claridge’s provenance: one of the world’s most exclusive hotels
Three different collectible categories in one lot: hotelware, photography, and royal ephemera
Original 1930s material, not reproductions
Large display value – perfect for collectors, interior decorators, or hotel/hospitality historians
Connected to high society, gastronomy, and royalty
Hotel memorabilia prices have risen sharply in recent years, especially from iconic hotels (Claridge’s, the Savoy, Ritz etc.)
