AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A truly rare copy of Květa Pacovská’s book — the book was printed, but the author was dissatisfied with a few minor details, so it was never released for sale. Copies appear on the Czech market only very rarely. For collectors and fans of Květa Pacovská, this therefore represents a truly unique opportunity.

The book is in Czech; however, thanks to today’s fast translation technologies, this need not be a problem for non-Czech speakers. Moreover, the book is primarily a visual experience, with the story being shaped more by play and imagery than by text.

Condition: very good!

"Půlnoční hra" (Midnight Game) is an interactive children’s book created by renowned Czech artist and illustrator Květa Pacovská. Published in 2001 by Brio as part of the “Book as a Game” series, this work combines literary storytelling with vivid visual art, encouraging readers to actively engage with the book beyond just reading.

Known for her playful and experimental approach, Pacovská merges graphic design, illustration, and narrative in a unique way that stimulates imagination and creativity. The book features a sturdy laminated hardcover and vibrant illustrations that invite exploration and discovery, making it both a literary and artistic experience.

“Půlnoční hra” exemplifies Pacovská’s distinctive style, which often blurs the boundaries between text and image, creating a dynamic dialogue between the reader and the artwork. It remains a celebrated work in Czech children’s literature and art, cherished by collectors and readers alike.

Seller's Story

I strive to find and offer you the most interesting items from Prague’s antiquarian bookstores and second-hand shops: autographs, rarities, photographs, bibliophilia, old prints, posters, maps, catalogs, high-quality or sold-out books, as well as fine art. Prague has always been a meeting point of cultures and languages. Especially during the 20th century, Czechoslovakia was visited by numerous world-renowned artists, writers, scientists, and other notable figures who left their mark here and established connections with local culture or institutions. So the selection here will be rich in provenance — including German, French, English, Russian, or, for example, Italian. However, I will also aim to highlight more or less well-known Czech artists and noteworthy items — of interest to collectors and art lovers, especially those passionate about autographs, fine art, and related fields.
