Superb reprint of the manuscript of Si le Grain ne meurt (fragment) by André Gide, produced in phototypy by Daniel Jacomet for Edouard Champion in 1924.
Limited edition of 130 copies, this one numbered by hand 45 and signed by André Gide (A.G.).
The complete original edition was published in 1920/21, in 13 copies, and the second edition in 1926.
Contains 42 numbered leaves. In a folded paper slipcase, decorated with the handwritten title in facsimile. All housed in a cardboard case also decorated with the handwritten title.
In good condition. Traces on the case and damaged corners. Slightly yellowed paper, rare spots. Nice example.
"If the grain does not die" is an autobiographical account by the French writer André Gide. It describes the author's life from his early childhood in Paris to his engagement to his cousin Madeleine Rondeaux (referred to here as Emmanuèle) in 1895. The text was partially published outside of commercial outlets as early as 1920-1921; in 1924, the work was published in its entirety in three volumes, which were only put on sale in 1926; and in 1936, the definitive edition appeared in volume X of the Complete Works.
