Filles de la Pluie, written by André Savignon with illustrations by Robert Humblot.
Description from the seller
Superb illustrated and numbered copy on Arches vellum of this book, which combines the pen of André Savignon, a writer known for his affinity for maritime and popular atmospheres, with the pictorial universe of Robert Humblot, a 20th-century figurative painter, in an edition published by Robert Léger without a specific date.
The work features the 'daughters of the rain,' feminine figures rooted in coastal Brittany, whose lives are rhythmically shaped by the sea, the seasons, and the weather, and whom Savignon describes with prose that is both realistic and poetic.
Humblot accompanies this text with lithographs or illustrations that visually convey the ruggedness of the landscapes, the melancholy of the faces, and the beauty of everyday gestures, creating a dialogue between literature and painting.
This volume illustrates the encounter between a sensitive writer to popular voices and a painter committed to expressive figuration, while also highlighting the importance of publishers like Robert Léger in disseminating unique artistic collaborations.
