Barthez, known for his theory of the 'vital principle,' analyzes the various forms of gout, their supposed causes (heredity, diet, lifestyle), their joint and visceral manifestations, as well as their chronic progressions.

Good condition of the bindings, books in their full edition cardboard binding, signs of use, a cracked edge but with the binding intact, rubbed headbands and corners, dulled edges, smooth spine, gilded titles and volume numbers on red Moroccan leather pieces.
Good interior condition; however, for volume 1, the main part of the book tends to come away slightly from the binding, with some foxing and water stains.
