Description from the seller
Rare edition, a historical and scientific treasure that will take you on a journey into the fascinating world of medical matter.
This is a French translation by Antoine Du Pinet of the comments by Pierre André Matthiole, an Italian physician and botanist of the 16th century, on the famous treatise by Dioscoride, a Greek physician of the 1st century AD who compiled knowledge about medicinal plants of his time.
You will be able to admire more than 1000 plants described in detail, accompanied by their names in Greek, Latin, and French, as well as their therapeutic virtues and modes of use.
You will also learn the secrets of animals, minerals, and chemicals used in pharmacy at the time.
This book is a masterpiece of the Renaissance, which testifies to Matthiole's genius, as he enriched Dioscoride's text with his own observations and experiences.
It is adorned with splendid wood engravings that faithfully depict plants and animals, created by masters such as Giorgio Liberale and Wolfgang Meyerpeck.
