Description from the seller
Plaque of Chairman Mao Zedong painted on marble from Dali.
Chairman Mao Zedong
Chairman Mao Zedong
A propaganda souvenir from the 1950s–70s, made on a marble plaque from Dali (Yunnan), painted with ink.
The text is written in traditional Chinese calligraphy style.
Read fragments from the sticker on the back.
The sticker is Chinese, printed with red ink on thin rice paper. Such labels were typical for the 1950s–1970s in China, especially on:
decorative stone slabs, handcrafted items, portrait reproductions of leaders (including Mao), products from 'PRC Export'.
Fragments that can be deciphered.
Dali
→ indicates dàlǐshí – marble (marble from the Dali region in Yunnan is famous for its shades).
Ming – 'bright / Ming / excellent' (fragment of a larger word)
portrait / image
painted, drawn
...water... – probably 'water ink' or an indication of a technique.
The arrangement of characters looks like a description of the object itself in the style of:
Marble portrait painted with ink / drawn
Sticker style
Typical print for Mao's era – such labels were used in mass production of devotional items and portraits for offices, schools, and factories.
Red print = the color of revolution / propaganda, standard.
The language appears to be traditional or semi-traditional, suggesting the 1950s-60s, before simplified script became dominant in export production.
This is an unusual, less frequently seen form — most Mao portraits were printed or enameled on metal plaques, with fewer made on stone.
It points to products from folk art workshops or artisan studios under party control.
Some complete words.
Clearly expressed, like a painting.
