Second edition of this famous geometry treatise first published in 1690, illustrated with 45 folding plates. Checked and complete.
The boards are both technical and aesthetic, with geometric diagrams decorated with scenes in the lower parts, engraved by Chedel after Cochin.
Copper engravings imitate the woodcuts of the original edition, and the publisher added small vignettes that, besides providing pleasant amusement through their varied subjects, will also help train young people. To relax from serious study of geometry, they can practice with these.

Vintage binding, marbled havana calf, spine with raised bands, with a title piece and fleuronné panels in gilded tools. Red edges.
Condition: marks on the covers, rubbing and worn corners, missing at the head (solid volume). Moisture and foxing inside. Working copy, reasonable condition. Complete with all the plates.
This treatise complements the Practice of Geometry, both on paper and in the field. Sébastien Leclerc, or Le Clerc (1637-1714), was, in turn, a geographer-engineer, a member of the Royal Academy of Painting, a professor of geometry and perspective, engraver of Louis XIV's Cabinet, and a teacher at the Gobelins School.
