Witchblade (in English, 'Witch Blade') is a comic book character created by Marc Silvestri and Michael Turner, respectively founder and lead artist of Top Cow, a division of Image Comics. Its series debuted in the United States in 1995.
Witchblade narrates the adventures of Sara Pezzini, a detective from the 'Homicide' unit in New York. She became a police officer following the death of her father in the line of duty, who was also in law enforcement. During an investigation, she is mortally wounded. It is at that moment that the semi-sentient weapon Witchblade 'chooses' Sara as its new owner, granting her new and extraordinary abilities.
The story of Darkness revolves around the events of the Darkness and its bearer Jackie Estacado, a former hitman of the New York mafia family Franchetti.
The core of the Darkness plot revolves around the titular co-protagonist entity, Tenebra. Tenebra is an elemental chaos entity: it is the eternal enemy of the Angelus and operates by inhabiting a human host, with whom it lives in symbiosis. The holders of Tenebra have the power to create anything they desire from darkness, such as objects or lesser entities called Darkling, and can return from the afterlife whenever death occurs. However, Tenebra's powers are bound by darkness and can only manifest in the dark. Otherwise, the holder cannot summon them, making them vulnerable. It appears to act and behave according to the soul of the host and, as in the case of Jackie Estacado, torments the wicked so they kill others like themselves, resorting to hallucinations or other stratagems, until the host accepts both the darkness and the evil deeds they have committed.
