Original edition, illustrated with a frontispiece portrait after Charles Fouqueray (reproduced on the cover) and 18 etching engravings by Georges Jeanniot (1848-1934), including 4 outside the text.

Copy bound in a beautiful binding signed by Lucien Durvand (1852-1924), perfectly executed in half-camel morocco, with a gold fillet along the covers; the smooth spine decorated with a fine mosaic pattern, composed of ivory and ochre leather leaves and fleurons, gold fillets, and the title in gold letters. Gilt top. Durvand is one of the best binders of his time and received a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition.

Limited edition for bibliophiles, restricted to 350 copies, this one being number 285 out of 130 in the in-8 soleil format, on Vélin d'Arches.

Very beautiful example, binding in excellent condition, spine very slightly sunfaded with very minor rubbing at the tips. Interior impeccable, despite a handling mark on page 35.
