Giuseppe Pennasilico (Naples, 1861 - Genoa, 1940), Female portrait with dog, oil on cardboard, 31.5 x 26.6 cm, including frame dimensions 47 x 42 cm, traces of signature at the bottom right.
Giuseppe Pennasilico studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, attending courses by Stanislao Lista, Domenico Morelli, and Gioacchino Toma. He debuted in 1874, at a very young age, at the Naples Promoter and shortly after moved to Milan to continue his training at the Brera Academy. He settled in Genoa, where he opened his own studio. He exhibited at numerous national (Venice, Milan, Bologna, Genoa, Turin, Rome, Florence) and international (Munich, Berlin, Paris, London, and Santiago de Chile) exhibitions. His name is one of the most sought after in the collecting of Italian painting of the second half of the nineteenth century.
The work in question is a beautiful portrait of a young girl with a dog.
The work is in good condition. The signature is very faded and barely visible. The frame shows some losses of gilding, which have been partially restored.
Piece accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and Legitimate Provenance.
